“Electronic Dance Music: Meet the Marvel Superheroes”—UC- HRM’s Acquaintance Party ‘16
4:17 PM
Last August 28,
Sunday, my sister Rica of Sassy Cebuanna Chic and I were invited to cover University of Cebu-College of
Hotel and Restaurant Management’s Acquaintance Party 2016, with the
theme: “Electronic Dance Music: Meet the Marvel Superheroes”.
The ambiance was
light and cozy in the Oakridge Pavilion—just perfect for their chosen theme. It
was quite a number of participants for the said event, as the place was fully
occupied. It was a delight to see the colorful costumes and props of the students,
and even the teachers themselves. To see the smiles on their faces while seeing
one another in costumes is definitely something worth remembering for that day.
The friendly aura and warmth of one another is another thing worthy of
attention, as it defines the success of the party.
As for the main
highlight of the gathering, it was the group costume contest showcasing the
different Marvel superheroes. So the program started with the “red carpet”
entrance of the students portraying their chosen heroes. They came in groups as
the competition is for a #SquadGoals category. It was then followed by the
well-applauded arrival of the Dean of the College of Hotel and Restaurant
Management (HRM), Mrs. Victoria S. Amadora along with the professors, who were
also wearing props and costumes. It was such a treat for the students to see
their teachers in those costumes, considering that it is not something they see
every day. So imagine the claps and shouts of the crowd as their superhero
teachers posed for a picture on stage. It was quite a riot!
To formally welcome the guests, the Dean gave her brief yet encouraging speech
to everyone. Then the previous president, Mr. Rhancel Labuga, of the Society
of Junior Hoteliers gave his grateful message to everyone for their
support during his term. He then passed on the Key of responsibilities to his
successor—Mykuh Lañojan, the newly-elected President. After which, Mr. Lañojan
gave his reassuring message to his fellow students. What came after is one of
the most-awaited parts of the celebration, the dinner. (Haha!)
To keep things going, there were a lot of surprises for the attendees. One of
which is the Raffle Draw, wherein there were more or less fifty lucky winners.
Three of them won the “grand prize”, each a stay for two in the Executive Suite
in Cebu Business Hotel. How’s that, right? Lucky indeed. Furthermore, to
entertain the audience, another surprise is the several song and dance numbers
from the talented people in the HRM Department. First was a song number from
Ms. Jessa Mae Abaquita, a Tawag ng Tanghalan sa Showtime contestant, and a
proud HRM student. Her voice was something to be proud of, that’s for sure. And
when she sang the very popular song, “A Secret Love Song”, everybody in the
Pavilion sang along with her! Second was a superb and sizzling dancesport
number from Philippine Dancesport Champions. Third was a fiery, sexy and hot dance number from the two ladies
of Angel Fire—a Pilipinas Got Talent Season 2 Semi-Finalist. The audience,
especially the men, jaw-dropped every time they danced along with the rhythm.
Fourth was a calm and relaxing song number from HRM’s very own Sessionistas, a
group of endowed students and budding singers from the college. Like ASAP’s
Sessionistas, everytime they sing, they say something about what the song is
about. And as expected, there were a lot of cheesy and “hugot” lines from these young artists, which is what the audience
liked, nevertheless. Fifth and sixth respectively, are another song numbers,
and from the teachers this time. One was a heart-warming song presentation from
Dr. Earl Rocha, and another was a groovy and fun song-and-dance number from
Mrs. Rhea Fabrica. The last and most-awaited special surprise performance came
from the Teaching Staff of the HRM Department, along with the talented student
dancers from HRM Crew. Altogether, they danced the night away with the popular
“Horns Dance”, of which the audience actively participated. The crowd went all
wild and fun-crazy!
To formally close the event, the awarding ceremony of the winners was done.
The final part of the
Acquaintance Party was the Electronic Dance Music or the EDM—undoubtedly the
most awaited and certainly the favorite part for most of the students.
The said event was
indeed a success! Kudos to all the people who made it
possible. Well, 'til the next event, then.
